Bosses say the Canterbury Road store will receive a 'full refurbishment'.

This includes installing new flooring, new refrigeration and freezer units, new shelving and a new front entrance door to improve accessibility.

A Tesco spokeswoman said: "Being at the heart of the Hawkinge community is of great importance to us and the refurbishment of our Express store means we can provide even better service and convenience for our customers with new flooring, shelves, fridges, freezers and a new entrance door.

"Unfortunately we will be closed for a short time while these works are carried out and we look forward to welcoming customers again when we reopen our much improved shop in mid-March."

The exact opening date is not known.

A notice on the chain's website reveals the shop is closed - a new opening date it not yet known

During its closure, other Tesco Express' can be found in Dover Road and Foord Road, both in Folkestone.

The Hawkinge shop was damaged and had to closed after it was targeted by ram-raiders in 2007.

The gang used a JCB digger to smash into the shop front and steal a cash machine in the middle of the night.

The cash machine was then loaded onto a flat-bed lorry.
