A driver has been arrested after crashing his car while trying to escape from police.

The man, who has not been named but is from Dover, was spotted driving in Coombe Valley Road, earlier today by officers in a patrol car.

The officers requested he stop his car. When he failed to do so they were authorised to pursue him.

The pursuit started in Coombe Valley Road

Police began to follow the vehicle, but the pursuit was called off shortly afterwards.

However, not long after the car they had been following crashed into three other vehicles in Melbourne Avenue, in Whitfield.

The crash closed the road for some time and buses in the area had to use an alternative route.

One person suffered a minor injury during the collision.

Chris Herbert, spokesman for Kent Police said: "A 31-year-old man from Dover was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and possession of class B or C drugs."

It is understood the road is still blocked, but the damaged vehicles are set to be moved from the scene shortly.
