Two adjacent office buildings are to be reworked into a hub for micro-businesses.

BizSpace has bought Kestrel House and Knightrider House in Knightrider Street, Maidstone, for a total of £4.15million.

The company plans to spend another £1.1million on refurbishing the properties.

Together the buildings offer 21,500 sq ft of office space, which the company said it would remodel into "a dynamic, collaborative and design-focused workspace" to appeal to Maidstone’s growing contingent of micro-businesses, free-lancers, entrepreneurs and SMEs.

Knightrider House is an impressive Grade II building, once home to the founder of the Royal Society of the Arts, William Shipley, with 22 parking spaces. The more modern Kestrel House comes with 68 spaces.

Emma Long, commercial director for BizSpace, said: “There are surprisingly few options in Maidstone for businesses who want to work in high-quality, well designed, good-value flexible accommodation.

"That's what we will offer in our small business community hub."
