Suspected moped thief arrested after police chase in New Hythe Lane, Larkfield

A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a moped and driving under the influence.

The 25-year-old was detained last Friday after uniformed police patrols had been in the New Hythe Lane area, Larkfield.

The officers were responding to reports of antisocial behaviour involving several motorcycles.

They spotted one rider on a moped who was parked and attempted to drive away but fell from the vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by pursuing officers.

A 25-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving while under the influence of drugs and for having no licence or insurance.

He was later released from custody, pending the outcome of further investigation.

Inquiries revealed the moped had allegedly been stolen from the Swanscombe area. The victim has been contacted and the bike will be returned to them.
