Drivers are having to battle against deep surface water on a busy stretch of road.

Vehicles using the Maidstone-bound A249 have been seen aquaplaning after the Stockbury roundabout, near the South Green turn-off.

It is a problem that has blighted that particular stretch of road before.

In May 2018 it was hit by flash floods after a series of thunderstorms saw inches of rain fall in a short period of time causing problems for drivers.

The road takes traffic from Sheppey, Sittingbourne as well as people coming off the M2 heading towards Maidstone.

A police spokesman said they were not aware of any reports of crashes in the area.

Nor had officers been made aware of incidents relating to surface water.

Pictures show lorries and cars splashing through the flood water.

The stretch is managed and maintained by Kent Highways.

A Kent Highways spokesman said: "Following extensive heavy rain, the A249 Sittingbourne Road carriageway flooded southbound near the junction with South Green Lane.

"Flood signs were placed on the side of the road, warning drivers to approach with caution."

More heavy rain is expected in the Stockbury area for tomorrow morning as Storm Jorge brings 70mph winds to Kent.
