It is believed the driver was attempting to turn around when the cab ran onto the grass next to the former Folkestone Racecourse and got stuck.

The vehicle then reportedly broke down while the trucker attempted to manoeuvre back onto the road.

Although it happened at about 1pm, the road remained blocked for at least two hours while police tried to help recover the vehicle and the trailer.

The lorry has now been moved and the road has reopened but some delays are still being reported in the area.

A police spokesman said: "We were called shortly after 1pm to a report of a broken-down lorry on the A20 in Newingreen, near Hythe.

"Officers attended and assisted with traffic management and the recovery of the lorry."
