Boy, 15, ploughs into parked cars after driving mum's car in Greenhithe while more than twice the drink-drive limit

A 15-year-old boy got behind the wheel of his mum’s car while drunk and crashed into several parked vehicles, a court heard.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, drank seven bottles of beer and three ciders before taking the car and setting off on his wrecking spree in Greenhithe.

He managed to drive about 60ft before he ploughed into four parked vehicles, magistrates were told.

He was later found to be more than twice the drink-drive limit. Luckily no one was hurt.

He woke his mum to tell her the car had been stolen before later confessing to taking the keys.

Police were called after reports of damage to other vehicles.

A roadside breath test gave a reading of 71 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He told officers “I don’t know why I did it” when questioned at the scene.

He pleaded guilty to four charges at Medway Youth Court.

“It is a shame he is going to have a criminal record" - Mike Arnsby

They included driving a car when above the legal alcohol limit, driving without a licence and insurance and aggravated vehicle taking.

Mike Arnsby, defending, said: “He has co-operated with police and shown remorse for what he has done.

“It is a shame he is going to have a criminal record.”

Magistrates sentenced him to a 17-month disqualification order from driving, which comes into immediate effect even though he is still too young to drive legally.

He was also given a nine-month referral order and ordered to pay £100 court costs.

The arrest on Sunday, December 7, was made during a month-long campaign to warn against the dangers of driving while over the limit.

In December, more than 100 people were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving offences, with updates regularly posted on the force’s Twitter feed.
