Fire in derelict building in Swanley being investigated by police

Firefighters were called to a blaze at Woodlands Banqueting Suite in Swanley last night, which police are treating as suspicious.

The fire was in the foyer of the two-storey derelict building on Hilda May Avenue and was reported at 8pm.

This is the second time the former wedding venue has caught fire.

The last time was in December when five fire engines attended the scene.

Crews tackled the fire and used a fog spike to spray a fine mist into the roof to stop the flames spreading through the rest of the building.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

A spokesman from Kent Police said: "We were called at 9.21pm to a report of a suspicious fire at a derelict building in Hilda May Avenue, Swanley.

"Officers attended and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing."
