Large audience expected at public meeting on Quinn Estates' plans for 3,750 homes near Northbourne, Deal

A campaign group fighting against the development of 3,750 new homes near Deal will host a public meeting tonight.

Save Finglesham Fields is expecting a large audience at the meeting which will start at 7pm at Northboune Parish Hall in The Drove.

The group was set up to oppose Quinn Estates’ plans which they believe would destroy greenfield land north of Northbourne and adjacent to Finglesham and Ham.

Campaigner Graham Ellis said: "This meeting will be of interest and importance to all the residents of Eastry, Sandwich, Deal and their surrounding areas.

"The purpose is to discuss and appraise Quinn Estates' proposed plan for the building of 3,750 new homes and industrial units on the Finglesham, Updown and Northbourne greenfield zone.

"The format of the meeting will be to focus on some of the specific and general issues which are relevant to the proposal."

There will be an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions and add comments.

The group has recently won the support of Deal and Dover MP Charlie Elphicke.

He said: “Everyone knows I believe we should build on brownfield first. We should be steadfast in protecting the environment and slow to bulldoze green fields.”

Quinn Estate’s plans also include a new road which would link the Betteshanger country park roundabout on the A258 Deal to Sandwich Road to the A256 Eastry bypass.

The development would become Howbridge Park if approved.
