Nine weeks of gas works to cause traffic disruption in Buckland Avenue, Dover

A series of closures are to take place on a busy road as nine weeks of gasworks are scheduled to start next month.

Gas company SGN says its engineers will be carrying out essential upgrades around Buckland Avenue in Dover from March 4 until May 3.

The work will be carried out in phases with a number of road closures and parking restrictions set to take place.

Dan Brown, a spokesperson from SGN explained: “We’ll shortly start essential gas network upgrades in the Buckland Avenue area to ensure local properties continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.

“Our engineers will be replacing our old metal mains with new plastic pipe from Monday, March 4.

“This work will last approximately nine weeks and be carried out in phases to help minimise disruption.

“To ensure everyone’s safety around our sites, we do need to implement temporary traffic management measures while we carry out our upgrades.

"We understand roadworks can be frustrating...”

“We initially need to close a lane on Buckland Avenue when we are working between its junctions with Brookfield Place and Brookfield Avenue during the first phase.

“That’s before we close Buckland Avenue fully between Brookfield Avenue and Lorne Road from Monday, March 18.

“We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, once the new plastic pipe is installed, residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”

Brookfield Avenue will also be shut at its junction with Buckland Avenue during this second phase.

The final phase of work will take place in Lorne Road from Monday, April 15.

During this time, Lorne Road will be closed to motorists at its junction with Buckland Avenue, and the existing one-way restriction from London Road will be lifted to enable access from this end.

A signed diversion will be in place and SGN says access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

With the exception of disabled bays, all parking bays will be suspended within the closure areas.
