The money is to refurbish the site's bathroom at its community house.

This is part of an ongoing project to improve facilities for residents.

Cllr Pam Brivio, chairman of the civic and special projects committee, presented the cheque at the group's base.

Emmas Dover provides a home and work for up to 26 people who have suffered homelessness and social exclusion.

It provides a place for residents as long as they need it.

Over the next two to three years Emmaus Dover plans to build a new workshop and shop and to resurface its car park and access roads.

In addition Emmaus will work with English Heritage to repair the original gatehouse.

It will also install facilities for visitors to learn about the heritage and history of the fort, which helped defend Dover for centuries.
