Fallen servicemen and women will be honoured with a march and service on Remembrance Sunday on November 14.

A parade of standards, veterans and other organisations will assemble outside the B&M store in Biggin Street, Dover, at 10.30am.

They will march to the War Memorial in front of the town council offices at Maison Dieu House.

There, two minutes' silence will be observed at 11.00am.

The service will be conducted by the Rev Catherine Tucker and will be followed by the laying of wreaths.

The parade will then march back through the town to Market Square and town mayor Gordon Cowan will take the salute at St. Mary’s Church. Dover MP Natalie Elphicke will also attend this event.

Service sheets will be available to members of the public on the day and can also be downloaded from the Remembrance Sunday section of the Dover Town Council website dovertowncouncil.gov.uk

Priory Road will be closed from the York Street roundabout to the Ladywell traffic lights while the service is in progress.

The Royal British Legion memorial crosses will be in place from now until November 22, along with the wreaths from the day of the service.

Anybody wishing to collect their wreaths can do so or they will be recycled.

Meanwhile the Downs (Deal area) branch of the RBL is holding its Armistice Day Service at the War Graves Memorial in Hamilton Road Cemetery, Deal, on Thursday, November 11.

All assemble for 10.30 am for the service to begin at 10.55am.

Also the annual Remembrance Sunday service will take place around the War Memorial at the Victoria Hospital, in London Road, Deal, on November 14.

All assemble for 10.30am for the service to start for 10.55am am and the Chimes of Big Ben for the silence at 11.00 am.

At Sandwich there a gathering at the war memorial in Market Street for an Act of Remembrance at 11am, to be followed by a wreath laying ceremony.

Town Sergeant Kevin Cook said: "There is no church service this year, or indeed any parade on this occasion, due to the continued increase in Covid numbers.

"We are asking everyone to social distance wherever possible while attending."

The Act of Remembrance will be led by the Mayor’s Chaplain, the Rev Canon Mark Roberts.

Those at the ceremony include town mayor Paul Graeme, South Thanet MP Craig Mckinlay and Cllr Mike Conolly, chairman of Dover District Council.

At Aylesham the parade and service is at Market Square between 10am and noon.

Remembrance Sunday is to honour the fallen in all conflicts but focuses on the anniversary on the signing of the Armistice to end the First World War at 11am on November 11, 1918.

November 11 has since been commemorated as Armistice Day.
