He has run at least 5km (3.1 miles) daily since last New Year's Day, his 38th birthday.

By Friday, December 27, he had long smashed his original target of 2,136 miles (3,438 km), clocking up 2,365 miles (3,806 km).

That is the equivalent of 90 marathons.

Mr Hart ran to the Boxing Day Dip at Dover Seafront last week and waded into the freezing water with others.

The runs are for three charities and by last Friday he raised, £2,876, which is 78% of his £3,650 target.

Mr Hart, who lives and works in Dover, told the Mercury: "I have really enjoyed it, particularly running with others, which keeps you going.

"The worst part is when I was running while on holiday in Paphos (Cyprus) when it was 30C at 9am.

"The running has been difficult generally because it has taken up so much time and I have had to juggle it with home life and work. I already walk eight to 10 miles a day for my job.

"But my wife Claire has been supportive all along."

His final run, of 5k, starts at the shore end of new Marina Pier from 4.15pm and is expected to finish half an hour later at the seafront statues at Waterloo Crescent.

He will run up and down the pier and seafront to build up the distance and he and supporters will first meet at 4pm.

Mr Hart, a member of the Dover Roadrunners Club, is raising money for the charities Dover RNLI, Dover Community First Responders and Breast Cancer Now.

On several days Mr Hart has run way above his minimum quota.

He took on the 26-mile London and Brighton Marathons in April.

In June Mr Hart joined the 36-mile Deal to New Romney route of the Clifftop Challenge from Deal to Hastings.

He took part in the Folkestone Rotary Half Marathon in September.

His original target distance would have been equivalent to nearly three runs between Dover and John O'Groats.
