TSB branches in Kent await to hear if among 80 set to close

The TSB is set to close 80 stores nationwide - putting at risk hundreds of jobs - including those in Kent.

It says the decision to reduce its branches from 540 to 454 is to meet "the changing needs" of its customers - and make savings of some £100 million.

The bank has branches in Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Chatham, Bluewater, Sheerness and Ashford.

It is expected a list of the banks to close will be revealed later this week - after staff at the branches have been informed.

It is the latest in a string of closures by the big high street banks.

The closure plans were revealed by TSB's CEO Debbie Crosbie who outlined the bank’s three-year strategy.

It includes a £120m investment to transform digital channels over the period.

The CEO said: "Our new strategy positions TSB to succeed in a challenging external environment at a time when we know customers want something different and better from their bank.

"We need to make changes to enable us to compete" - Debbie Crosbie

“With a trusted brand, modern platform, and national presence, TSB is well placed to deliver – but we need to make changes to enable us to compete.

“The plan we’re sharing today involves some difficult decisions, but it sets TSB up to succeed in the future.

"Taken together, these changes will help us to serve more customers, better, for the long-term.”

In addition to branch closures, TSB will also invest in self-service in branches and flagship branches, which, it says, will be in the "right locations" to meet customer demand and complement the focus on digital services.
