Flood alerts issued across Kent amid Met Office yellow weather warning

A yellow weather warning is in place for parts of Kent as more rain is set to hit today – with several flood alerts issued.

The Met Office says Folkestone and Dover could face downpours up until 6pm.

Meanwhile, flood alerts have been issued in Gillingham, Maidstone, Sittingbourne, Herne Bay, Ramsgate, Deal, Dover, New Romney and Dungeness.

It comes as the Environment Agency says Kent could be hit by the “very strong and potentially damaging” Storm Ciarán – which is due to arrive on Wednesday night.

The wet conditions in the Folkestone and Dover area today could disrupt some travel, with a slight chance of delays or cancellations to bus and train services.

Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

The Met Office say there is also a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

Yesterday, drivers were warned of hour-long delays after a motorway lane was closed due to flooding.

There were 14 miles of queueing traffic between Faversham and Gillingham along the M2 on Sunday afternoon.
