Lorry fire causes M20 delays between Ashford and Maidstone

There were delays on the M20 after a lorry caught fire on the London-bound carriageway between Ashford and Maidstone.

The fire happened at around 2am between Junction 9 for the A20, Fougeres Way (Ashford) and Junction 8, the A20 Ashford Road (Leeds Castle/Maidstone Services) and initially resulted in the closure of two lanes.

The fire was put out but the vehicle's recovery mean that part of the motorway had to be coned off, leading to delays for traffic.

National Highways, which was previously known as Highways England, tweeted at 12.46pm to say all lanes had been reopened.

There are no reports of any injuries.
