Staff at Greggs bakery in Maidstone shopping centre racially abused by customer without a mask

A worker at Greggs has been threatened and racially abused after asking a customer to wear a face mask.

The suspect entered the Maidstone shopping centre branch at around 9.10am on April 2, when a member of staff confronted him over his lack of a face covering.

After threatening to assault the victim and shouting racial abuse, the maskless man left the bakery in The Mall.

Although the offence took place more than a fortnight ago, Kent Police has waited until today to issue CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to over the alleged offences.

A force spokesman said: "Officers believe the person pictured could have important information and are asking anyone who recognises him to contact them."
