Sandhurst man charged with attempted murder after pedestrian hit by van in Rye Road

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a pensioner who was hit by a van.

Charles Wood, 58, of Rye Road, Sandhurst, appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court today. He is also facing an allegation of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A 70-year-old man was flown to hospital after being struck by a Volkswagen Transporter at around 1.30pm on Monday in Rye Road.

The suspect and victim are known to each other.

The victim is currently in a London hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

On Tuesday Wood was arrested and charged with attempted murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was released on bail with conditions and will appear at Maidstone Crown Court next month.
