Motorhome on fire on M20 near Leeds Castle turn-off between Ashford and Maidstone

A motorhome burst into flames on the M20 as firefighters found they had to deal with two fires along the same stretch of the motorway.

The vehicle caught alight just after 9am on the London-bound carriageway between Junction 9, the A20 Fougeres Way for Ashford, and Junction 8, the A20 Ashford Road for Leeds Castle near Maidstone.

One of the three lanes was closed by National Highways patrols while emergency services dealt with the fire.

Fire crews used compressed foam to put out the flames and the lane was re-opened by 10am.

There were no injuries.

Firefighters had originally been called to the same section of the M20 at about 8.30am to reports of a car on fire.
