Gillingham sign Callum Reilly from Bury on loan for the rest of the season

Gillingham boss Steve Lovell has bolstered his squad ahead of the trip to Scunthorpe United.

Bury midfielder Callum Reilly, 24, joins on loan until the end of the season.

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 international, who can also play full-back, has played 25 times for Bury this season.

Lovell said: "I've been tracking him for a while. He's a left-sided midfielder with great energy and he has played in the Championship.

He is just 24 but quite experienced. He comes from Bury, where he has been playing all year.

"We needed someone to give us that balance in midfield on the left side and he is a very good footballer, very intelligent and what I like is his mobility and fitness. He will fit in with us very nicely."

Reilly, who is just over six foot, started out at Birmingham and made 66 appearances for the Blues after making his debut for them in January 2012.

Reilly had a spell at Burton Albion on loan before making the move permanent. He joined Coventry on loan a year ago and signed for Bury in the summer, agreeing a two year deal.

He goes straight into the Gills squad for Saturday's trip to Scunthorpe United.

Meanwhile, recently released keeper Steve Arnold has agreed an 18-month deal with National League side Barrow. They are managed by Ady Pennock, the man who brought him to the Gills during his reign.
