Gillingham manager Ady Pennock on friendly win at Faversham

Gills manager Ady Pennock got exactly what he wanted out of Friday’s friendly at Faversham.

Pennock fielded a different XI in each half - including four unnamed trialists - and was a happy man at full-time after coming through with no new injuries.

Tom Eaves scored the only goal midway through the first half but the result was largely irrelevant.

Pennock said: “I’m very pleased. No injuries, that’s all I’m worried about to be fair. It’s all about fitness but it went well.

“Everybody had 45 minutes each and I was very pleased.

“The biggest thing for me was just to come through it with no injuries and it’s a good workout for us.

“We mixed it up. We had some trialists here and we had some young lads playing as well and they came through really well.”

Pennock praised hosts Faversham and feels it’s important Gills support Kent non-league clubs, with the game attracting more than 1,200 fans.

He said: “I’d like to thank Faversham for their hospitality. They’ve been very good.

“We’ve got to be close. It’s great to come to Faversham and we’re going to Dover and Dartford and we’ve got to have that close relationship. It’s very important.

“We’re a family club and it’s important we go to places like this.”

Gills announced the loan signing of Spurs defender Connor Ogilvie before kick-off.
