Suspected shoplifter charged after thefts at Waitrose and Tesco stores in Sevenoaks, the Co-op in Snodland and Asda in Chatham

A suspected shoplifter has been charged after a security guard was assaulted and a spate of supermarket thefts.

Bottles of alcohol including spirits and wine were reported stolen from Tesco and Waitrose stores in Sevenoaks, at the Co-op in Snodland and an Asda store in Chatham, where a member of security staff is also said to have been assaulted.

The offences took place between March 15 and May 1.

Liam Chapman, 34, of Langdale Rise, Maidstone was arrested on Tuesday and charged with four counts of theft and a further charge of assault.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates' Court today.
