New Year’s Eve house fire in Minster-on-Sea sparked by e-bike

A house fire has been blamed on a charging e-bike catching light.

Firefighters suspect the electric bicycle was on charge when it sparked a blaze in a residential garage in Minster-on-Sea, Sheppey, on New Year’s Eve afternoon.

A spokesperson for the emergency service also reminded people to always charge e-bikes, e-scooters and other electronic devices according to manufacturers’ instructions.

"Remember to make sure they are charged when someone is home and awake and unplugged when finished," they said.
