Libertines star Pete Doherty teases song from new album in Albion Road, Margate

Pete Doherty, lead singer of the rock group The Libertines, has released a video of himself singing on a Kent street corner.

The star posted a video on social media of him performing a song from the band’s upcoming album, All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, in Albion Road, Margate.

The band – which has deep roots in the seaside town – teased fans with an acoustic version of a new song from the album which is set to be released in March.

In the video, Doherty can be heard singing the lyrics: “The last dream of every dying soldier.

“I’ve seen you there, flowers in your hair.

“The last King of every dying empire.

“Just let it die, sit back and enjoy the ride.”

The foursome, which is fronted by Doherty and Carl Barât, dropped the single Run, Run, Run last October and the new album is now available to pre-order.

The band will also be performing in Margate later this year.

The video, which was posted on Instagram yesterday, has already received more than 6,000 likes from adoring fans.

Doherty now lives in France, but was previously a Margate local, completing the Cliftonville Dalby Café’s breakfast challenge in 2018.

In a Margate version of Man V Food, the Time for Heroes singer scoffed four eggs, four rashers of bacon, four sausages, chips, hash browns, onion rings, bubble, beans, mushrooms, two slices of toast and tea.

Doherty recently revealed in a Louis Theroux documentary he left the town for France in an attempt to get sober.

Barât is also heavily involved in the town, opening nightclub Justine’s in Marine Gardens last year.

He also headlined a charity gig for The Margate School, when the arts education centre faced closure.

Margate is known for attracting celebrities, with Hollywood couple Rami Malek and Emma Corrin recently enjoying a date at seafood bar Buoy and Oyster on the town’s High Street.

Other famous faces who have visited include Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal, Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Tommy Lenk and Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall.

All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade by the Libertines is due to be released on March 8.
