Fireworks display at Kent Showground near Maidstone moved to December

A fireworks display company who had planned a drive-in display set to music next weekend, have rearranged the event so it will still take place before Christmas - and have added a festive theme.

Phoenix Fireworks from Wrotham had planned to deliver the extravagant spectacle this month, with spectators watching from the comfort of their cars.

The national Lockdown 2 forced the postponement of the socially distanced two-day 'pyromusical' fireworks to be staged at the Kent County Showground on Detling Hill, near Maidstone.

But now organisers have found a second series of dates - Friday, December 18 to Sunday, December 20 - which will come after the proposed date for the end of the lockdown. And it will now be a Drive-Thru Christmas Winter Wonderland with a chance to see Father Christmas, waving to children from his grotto, and his reindeer will be there.

In a statement to ticketholders, Phoenix Fireworks said: "Whilst we are disappointed that the event is postponed, we are pleased that we had secured 'Plan B' dates. The tickets purchased will be moved forward and are valid on the new dates."

They are contacting all ticketholders and have vowed to spread the message on social media.

Visitors will be able to watch the show from their cars and in their own 'pod' 2m away from the next car.

Should government restrictions mean the new dates can go ahead, they will move to the spring.
