Air pistol found in Westmeads Recreation Ground, Whitstable

Police were called to a playground after a “gun” was found by children.

Officers were called to Westmeads Recreation Ground, in Whitstable, following concern about an item discovered this afternoon.

A witness said they saw police in the park, off Wheatley Road, at around 4pm.

The man, who was on his way to the railway station, added: “Some children found a gun in the playground.

“Officers stated it was a firearm of some sort.”

The item, which a police spokesman said was believed to be an air pistol, was seized to be analysed.
