Pub shuts ahead of six-figure refurb following Greene King takeover

A pub undergoing a major overhaul costing to the tune of six figures will close until December following a takeover by Greene King.

The Wheatsheaf in Whitstable was previously run by Hungry Horse but has recently been acquired by the rival chain.

Closing its doors today (October 30), the tavern in Herne Bay Road is expected to reopen this December following a major refurbishment to both the inside and outside.

A new menu will follow, as well as a “new look and feel” according to bosses, who hope to “reaffirm the venue as a central community space”.

New general manager Andrew Vaughan said: “The whole team is so excited for the Wheatsheaf to undertake this major refurbishment, and we can’t wait to reopen just in time for Winter.

“The revamp will bring a revived atmosphere to the pub, and we’re confident that with our improved facilities, we’ll be proud to offer our guests an even better drinking, dining and social experience.”
