Teen charged after ‘number of cars damaged’ in Whitstable

A teenager accused of “damaging a number of cars” and committing a spate of other crimes has been charged.

Xander Mawema, 18, is said to have vandalised windows, bodywork and wing mirrors around Harwich Street in Whitstable between February 18 and 19.

Mawema, who lives in the town, was charged with 11 counts of criminal damage, police said.

He was also charged with a number of separate offences spanning five months earlier this year.

Mawema faces charges of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a plank of wood, on May 15, according to police.

He is also accused of assaulting an emergency worker on the same date, assaulting an 18-year-old woman in the town on February 19, and stealing wine from a supermarket on January 1.

Mawema, of St Andrews Close, has been bailed to appear at Folkestone Magistrates' Court on Friday 11 August.
