Numerous roads have been closed by flooding in villages surrounding Maidstone.

Three Met Office flood alerts have been issued in the Maidstone area for today, at the Lower River Medway, at the River Beult from Pluckley and Bethersden to Hampstead Lock at Yalding and the River Teise and Lesser Teise area from Horsmonden to Yalding.

All three alerts say flooding is possible and warn residents to be prepared, but the Met Office adds that it does not anticipate issuing a flood warning for property.

KCC Highways says that Hampstead Lane, in Nettlestead is closed between Station Road and Maidstone Road and advises drivers to find a different route.

The severity is classed as high.

Nearby, in West Street in Hunton there is a road closure at the Grove Lane junction until Tuesday December 8, due to flooding.

The severity is classed as high and a diversion is in place via Vicarage Lane, Yalding Hill, Shinglebarn Lane, Heath Road and Hunton Hill.

Ware Street in Bearsted is closed near the railway bridge due to flooding and an earlier accident.

The severity is classed as medium and drivers are asked to use an alternative route.

In Headcorn, the playground in Hoggs Bridge Green is submerged and Ulcombe Road is flooded. The road is not yet closed.

In Maidstone, the flooding continued into the weekend. On Saturday, a footpath in Mote Park was closed due to heavy rainfall.
