Trains between Dover and Ramsgate halted after person found dead on tracks

A person has been found dead on the tracks near a Kent railway station.

Officers were called to Kearsney, near Dover, just before 8am today, after receiving reports of a casualty on the line.

Paramedics also arrived at the scene - but the individual was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "We are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Rail operator Southeastern has suspended services between Dover and Ramsgate following the incident.

The firm says it has cut power to the tracks to help emergency crews.

A company official said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Canterbury East and Dover Priory.

"Power to the lines has been switched off to allow access for the emergency services.

"As a result, there are also now no trains between Dover and Ramsgate."

A replacement bus service has been arranged to run between Canterbury and Dover, as well as Ramsgate and Dover.
