Ebbsfleet United have signed midfielder Sean Shields from Dagenham & Redbridge.

Shields joined the Fleet on loan from the League 2 club in December and impressed manager Jamie Day with his performances on the wing and at wing-back.

Writing on Twitter, Shields said: "Many thanks to all the Daggers fans for their support during my time at the club. It's a shame I didn't get a real chance to show what I can do, but that's football! I wish everyone at the club all the best."

Day said earlier this month that he was keen to extend the 22-year-old's loan spell at Ebbsfleet.

And having scored once in six appearances so far for the Kent club, Shields has now left the Daggers to sign an 18-month contract at the PHB Stadium.

Day said: "Sean is a young talent who I have had the pleasure of working with over the last five weeks. Once he became available I felt it was right to bring him in long-term. He has a great attitude and wants to develop further."

Shields is the ninth player Day has brought to Ebbsfleet, and the seventh from a Football League club.

Cambridge United defender Tom Bonner will join that list when he signs for the Fleet on Monday.
