Sheppey Crossing reopens after crash on A249 Maidstone-bound

A bridge has reopened to motorists after nearly three hours following a multi-vehicle crash.

The A249 Maidstone-bound was shut after a car and van collided near the Sheppey Crossing.

The accident happened between the A2500 Lower Road and the B2231 Sheppey Way.

Emergency services were at the scene to treat a woman who suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 12.08pm on Friday to a collision involving a van and a car on the Maidstone-bound carriageway off the Sheppey Crossing.”

The carriageway had to close while arrangements were made to recover the vehicles. The road has since reopened.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance added: “A road traffic collision (RTC) on the Kingsferry Bridge was reported to us at shortly before 12.15pm today.

“One ambulance crew attended the scene.

“No one required hospital treatment.”
