Gypsy family try again for planning permission at Grandshore Lane site in Frittenden

A family is making a further attempt to secure planning permission for caravans on a site with a controversial history dating back 19 years.

Since 2005, there have been five planning applications for gypsy accommodation on The Hatchin Tan in Grandshore Lane, Frittenden, and each time they have been refused by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.

Two of the applications were taken to appeal where the refusal was upheld by planning inspectors.

That has not stopped the land being occupied by gypsy caravans at various times over the years, and the site has been subject to four enforcement notices by the council.

The plot lies within open countryside and is designated as Ancient Woodland, although sadly there are few trees left after the area was bulldozed.

The current applicant, Nancy Lee, who gives her address as Molash Road, Orpington, tried before to gain permission for three mobile homes and three touring caravans, but that application was refused in September 2021, and then rejected at appeal on July 14 this year.

Just three weeks later, on August 3, she submitted a new application for a single mobile home and one touring caravan, plus a built “day room,” with plans showing a lounge, kitchen, and two toilet/showers rooms.
