Flood warnings remain in place across Kent today — and the weather is set to get worse still.

Alerts are active across The Swale coastline, from Kemsley to Whitstable, with flooding expected to affect properties and roads in the area, particularly in Faversham and Conyer.

Gravesend suffered some of the worst flooding

Residents on the Isle of Sheppey have also received flood warnings from Warden Bay to the Hamlet of Shellness, due to a high tide affecting coastal locations.

An alert is in place for homes, roads and businesses seaward side of tidal defences in Greenhithe and Gravesend.

Areas closest to the Gravesend Promenade are due to be particularly affected as the area experiences exceptionally high tides for the next 4 days.

Those living and working near the River Medway and Medway estuary should also prepare for flooding, in particular around Lower Upnor and close to Canal Road, Strood.

Water enveloped large sections of that area early this morning including The Riverside Tavern, while The Medway Queen was reportedly "straining at her mooring".

The flood warning stretches down towards Aylesford and close to Sandling, Maidstone.

The Environment Agency is monitoring the situation and is encouraging people to protect themselves and their property.

From 6am tomorrow a yellow weather warning is in place across the south.

It means heavy showers are likely throughout the day with the potential of flooding cutting off communities and leading to power cuts.

The Met Office has warned drivers to expect treacherous conditions.

On Thursday Hurricane Lorenzo is set to sweep in from the west, bringing more misery and potentially worse weather.
