Ashford's Carnival of Baubles parade illuminates the town's streets for another year

Streets across a town were illuminated by lanterns and baubles as the annual Christmas parade thrilled the packed crowds.

kmfm joined the residents of Ashford who came in their droves to witness the Carnival of Baubles parade last night which made its way down Elwick Place, Bank Street and ending on Lower High Street.

This years parade was organised by Loveashford who worked in tandem with Emergency Exit Arts, Made in Ashford and a host of talented local artists.

The theme was Outer Space and included a special appearance from Emergency Exit Art's BinBot - a giant mechanical puppet.

A video mapping projection, created by students from the University of Kent, lit up both the Mecca Bingo building and architectural lighting illuminated St Mary’s Church, creating a beautiful festive glow into the evening.

Live music from Revelation Ashford and performances from TheatreTrain Ashford entertained the crowds while waiting for the procession.

Park Mall’s Makers Market also featured unique Christmas gifts and local businesses offered festive food and drinks.

The parade started in Elwick Place at 5pm

Cllr Nathan Iliffe, portfolio holder for regeneration and economic development at Ashford Borough Council, said: "This event encapsulates community spirit and seeing our residents come together in the parade is one of my yearly highlights."
