Junction 10 M20 slip road in Ashford closes to allow signs to be installed

Another slip road has shut at Junction 10 - but the latest closure is only temporary.

Highways England has closed the coastbound off-slip at the busy roundabout in Ashford to allow contractors to install new signs.

It comes just two months after the two coast-facing slips off the M20 shut for good as part of the Junction 10a works.

At 9pm last Wednesday, workers shut the coastbound off-slip at Junction 10, forcing drivers on a lengthy diversion.

It will remain closed until 6am on Monday, with traffic being diverted along to the coastbound off-slip at Junction 10a.

Temporary signs are directing drivers along the new A2070 link road back to the Junction 10 roundabout.

A Highways England spokesman says the closure is in place to allow for permanent signage to be put up.

He said: “Given the nature of the works and the costs of taking them off and on each day it is not practical to restrict the closures to overnight.

“Hence the reason for the permanent closure which allows us to do the work as quick as possible and safely.”

At the weekend, the A20 between the Pilgrims Hospice and Tesco Crooksfoot reopened.

The road had been shut so contractors could install gas mains and an electricity network for the 192-home Hinxhill Park scheme.
