A pubgoer was assaulted and left lying in the snow by two attackers.

The 34-year-old man had just left a pub looking for something to eat when he was confronted by two men in Church Approach, New Romney.

They demanded cash and, when he refused, they hit him on the head and he fell to the ground in the snow.

The assault happened at around 12.45am on Saturday, but police have just released details.

The victim, from South Wales, was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford to be treated for an injury to his face, but was released on Monday.

The men are described as white, in their mid 20s and wearing dark clothing. One was wearing a baseball cup or his hood up.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Constable Chris Brett at Kent Police on 101, giving reference ZY/1868/13.
