The fabulous fowl was picked up by Inspector Clive Hopwood, who found that the bird had a sprained foot.

He took it was taken to a vet to be treated, and it is now in a private boarding facility while the owner is found.

Mr Hopwood said: “Peacocks are not your everyday bird for the RSPCA, but he's a beautiful bird and proved to be no challenge when I caught him.

"He’s being treated for a sprain to his foot and we are hopeful he will make a full recovery.

“Peacocks are not considered to have an ‘established’ wild breeding population in Britain so if they are seen out and about in other areas they are likely an escapee from a local collection so we are hoping the owner will see this appeal and come forward.

“If you are the owner or if you know who owns this bird we would urge you to contact the RSPCA Inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
