Armed police called to Charing near Ashford as three hurt in 'altercation' at racecourse

Three people have been hurt during an 'altercation' in a village which sparked an armed police response.

Officers have taped off the entrance to the point-to-point racecourse in Charing near Ashford.

Police say armed officers were called just before 7pm following a report some of those involved "had been seen in possession of a weapon".

The air ambulance landed on the racecourse, which is just off the A252 close to Downsway.

Two of those hurt have been taken to the William Harvey Hospital for treatment to injuries which have not been described as serious.

Multiple ambulances were spotted on the A20 near Hothfield this evening as emergency crews headed to the village.

About eight armed officers were seen in the Charing fire station car park in School Road at 8.30pm.

A spokesman said officers are continuing to conduct inquiries at the scene.
