Leon Camier faces a challenge to his domination of the British Superbike Championship this weekend when Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli returns to the track.

Ashford’s Camier is currently heading the championship by 113.5 points and with 14 wins from 17 races, he is well on target to clinch the title.

Guintoli had been tipped to challenge for this year’s crown and had won the opening race at Brands Hatch.

But an injury in round three at Donington Park has kept him out of the last six meetings.

Camier returns to Cadwell Park, near Horncastle, Lincolnshire, where, in 2007, a horror crash left him hospitalised and nursing a broken femur among other injuries.

The last time he finished on the podium at Cadwell was in 2005 and he is determined to impress.

Camier said: "I hope that Sylvain has two good races. He was going pretty strong before Donington Park and hopefully he will be able to up the pace, but this is a hard circuit for anyone and a physical one.

"I’m feeling confident and I always want to win. I had a big crash here a few years back and want good results for that reason, so that I can put that behind me."
