Leon Camier may have made some costly mistakes on his World Superbikes debut in Australia but he is aiming to right his wrongs during round two in Portimao, Portugal, this weekend.

The 23-year-old British Superbike champion (pictured) was forced to settle for two 11th-place finishes in Australia but as the season moves to Europe, Camier is targeting an improved performance in qualifying.

His showing in Australia sees him sitting ninth position in the overall championship standings but the Ashford racer says a better grid position holds the key to a podium finish.

He said: "If I can go to Portimao and qualify well and maybe be on the second row of the grid, then have the sort of start I had in Australia, that should set me up to have a good race and be challenging.

"With the standard of the competition that we have in the World Superbikes this year, you can’t afford to be off the pace at all at any time.

"I need to make sure I’m right on it from the start of qualifying in Portugal."

All World Superbike Championship races will be broadcast on British Eurosport, with the European rounds available in high definition. British Eurosport can be found at Sky 410 & Virgin Media 521. Eurosport HD is on Sky 412.
