Ashford's Leon Camier admitted he only had himself to blame after flattering to deceive on his full-time World Superbike Championship debut at Phillip Island.

The 23-year-old British Superbike champion, pictured, had to settle for two 11th-place finishes after rider errors scuppered his chances.

Camier's fellow Brit Leon Haslam and Spanish rider Carlos Checa took the two race victories and the rookie believes his full-time bow could have been much better.

“I'm very sorry about all of the mistakes I made,” said Camier.

“In race one I went off track to avoid hitting my team-mate Max Biaggi when I overshot whilst braking. I then just had to push as hard as I could to make up as many positions as possible.

"Race two started well and I managed to pick up a lot of places in the first couple of corners. I was with the lead group but when I attempted to pass James Toseland we ended up going a bit wide. Then I shifted into the wrong gear and overshot at pretty much the same place as in race one.

"I'm really disappointed as my lap times were very good and I think we could have had an excellent result. We've improved a lot, but I wasted a good opportunity.”
