Vauxhall Corsa wrecked in Ashford axe attack

A video shows the moment thugs wielding weapons smashed a mum's car in a frenzied attack.

The two men can be seen wrecking the Vauxhall Corsa in an early-morning housing estate attack in Ashford.

The incident was caught on camera

CCTV from the car park in Repton Park shows the pair, one carrying what appears to be an axe and the other a bat or crowbar, striding towards the car before starting a frenzied onslaught.

One tries – and fails – to break through the windscreen, before setting about smashing the windows on the car's right side, while his accomplice smashes the left-hand-side and rear window.

After a wrecking session lasting just 10 seconds, the pair then run back out the way they came, with one getting a last swing in and smashing a headlight on his way out.

The car's owner said: "I have no explanation for this other than maybe a case of mistaken identity, because it seems so random but so specific at the same time.

"There are more than 30 cars in that car park and for them to choose that one so randomly seems so odd.

"We have only just got the car from a friend in London, it has absolutely no history here and barely anybody even knew we had it.

"I just can't fathom what the hell they got out of doing this, and who could be so cruel."

Police are investigating the incident, which happened in Sir John Fogge Avenue between 2.30am and 3am on Wednesday.

Anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage which may assist the investigation is urged to call police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/129148/21.
