Police are investigating after a body was found on a cliff slope near the centre of Folkestone.

The man's body was found downhill from The Leas at 7am today by a member of the public who called officers.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "We are still making enquiries. The death is being treated as unexplained until a post mortem examination is carried out."

Officers remained at the scene searching for clues this morning.

Robert Richardson, general manager of The Grand said: "There were six to eight police, ambulance an fire vehicles at the scene and the police were certainly there for up to four hours.

"The staff and I didn't realise what had happened until we looked out of the window, at 9.15am. The emergency service worked very efficiently and discreetly to the extent what we able to carry on with our business as usual."
