Staff are hoping to reopen to customers as a Tesco Express on Sunday, March 1.

Retail bosses submitted an application to Ashford Borough Council (ABC) to open a new store at the current site of One Stop in Trinity Road late last year.

The supermarket giant, which bought the One Stop chain back in 2003, requested to install new signage and upgrade the entrance of the unit - which was granted by council officers weeks later.

Staff will transfer across to Tesco and receive an increase in pay.

This will be the third Tesco Express store to open in Ashford, with stores already operating in the high street and Mace Lane.

A Tesco spokesman previously told KentOnline: "We are rebranding our Eureka Place One Stop store in Ashford to a Tesco Express.

"We believe the Express brand will better serve this community, offering a broader range of both branded and Tesco own-brand products, as well as more fresh food and food to go.

"Colleagues working at these stores will transfer across onto Tesco terms and conditions under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment) regulations."
