Etchingham lorry death: Ashford man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

A driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a generator fell off the back of a lorry and left a woman dead and her husband injured.

The 42-year-old suspect from Ashford was arrested after the incident in the quiet Sussex village of Etchingham at 6.55am on Monday, August 8.

The generator is believed to have fallen from the flatbed lorry near a level crossing and hit the husband and wife who were walking below.

The 40-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and has been named locally as Emma Beeney.

Her husband Robert, 44, was seriously injured and flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where he is said to be in a stable condition.
