Man arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after van hits two pedestrians in Bethersden Road, Smarden

Two women were injured and one had to be airlifted to hospital after being hit by a van in Smarden.

The pedestrians were struck by the vehicle at about 8.20am on Saturday in Bethersden Road, near Haffenden Quarter.

One woman was airlifted to a London hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition while another woman was taken to a local hospital by road.

The road was closed while emergency services were at the scene but reopened around 11am.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving but has since been released on bail while inquiries continue.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
