RO GOVETT: in a stable condition in hospital

POLICE want to trace the drivers of two vehicles who may have information about an incident in which a 41-year-old woman was seriously hurt when a brick was thrown through the windscreen of her car.

The victim, Ro Govett, who lives in the Bethersden area, has undedrgone major plastic surgery at King's College Hospital in London.

She is in a stable condition but it is feared she may lose the sight in one eye.

Mrs Govett was driving her two children along the A28 between Ashford and Bethersden last Thursday in her red Peugeot 406 when the incident happened.

Detective Inspector Dick Leahy, who is heading the inquiry, says police want to find two vehicles believed to have passed by within seconds of the incident.

The vehicles were travelling towards Ashford from Bethersden, in the opposite direction to Mrs Govett, following a white, flat-backed truck.

Mr Leahy stressed: "They would have been passing at the time and, in fact, from interviewing the children, they seem to remember those vehicles passing, who would have actually witnessed the incident at first hand."

Detectives are also anxious to speak to people travelling on a number 400 bus to Bethersden two days earlier, which had a brick thrown through a window.

Mr Leahy added: "There were passengers on that bus as well who may well have seen it. We are linking both incidents."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ashford police on 01233 619188.

Ex-husband and father of the children, John Govett, said: “Her face is in a terrible state but we are thankful she is still with us. Please help us and the police to find the person that did this.”
