Drivers stuck in Ashford Retail Park car park for more than two hours

Drivers are facing long delays this evening thanks to a new set of traffic lights in Ashford.

Some shoppers at Ashford Retail Park have been stuck in their cars for more than two hours due to the new lights, which have been installed at the Barrey Road junction with the A2070.

Highways England is carrying out work on a new junction which means lane closures, speed and width restrictions and contraflow are in place along the road, leading to delays.

One motorist, who did not wished to be named, had popped to Hobbycraft with his family at around 2.30pm.

After half an hour of shopping, he attempted to leave but is still sitting in traffic.

He said: "Basically there is a new set of traffic lights but nobody can get off. We have been here for two hours waiting.

"The lights are switching too quickly so not enough cars can get out.

"It is especially frustrating as it is a car park you have to pay for and you can only be here for an hour.

"The lights on the main road were switched on this morning and this is the cause of what's happening now.

"I won't be coming back here after this, I shall avoid it like the plague."

He went on to explain there is a couple in one car who have a small baby and have run out of milk.

The park is home to the likes of Tapi Carpets, Hobbycraft, B&M and Dreams.

Another motorist, Jutta Stilla, tweeted KentOnline saying: "Nothing has moved from this car park for at least an hour."
