Ashford ring-road closure still in place as repairs in New Street taking ‘longer than planned’

Emergency roadworks causing lengthy delays on a ring-road are taking “longer than planned”, bosses say.

Gas engineers from SGN have closed the junction of New Street and Somerset Road in Ashford, next to Farmfoods and Barnardo’s charity shop.

It means drivers are currently not able to turn left onto Somerset Road, which forms part of the town’s ring-road.

Repairs started last week and were set to last “a few days” – but “engineering difficulties” mean workers are still on site.

While an exact end date is unclear, SGN expects the closure to remain in place over the “next couple of days”.

An SGN spokesman said: “Due to engineering difficulties, it has taken longer to complete our repair than planned.

“All being well, we now hope to complete our work in the next couple of days.”
